Mongolia to Host Round 1 of 2019 EAFF Championship Qualification

At yesterday's annual EAFF meetings held in Busan, South Korea, several issues surrounding the next edition of the EAFF Championship were decided. One of those decisions was that Mongolia will host Round 1 of qualification for the 2019 EAFF Championship. This will be the first time that Mongolia has hosted a match in any round of the bi-annual tournament. It was also decided that Taiwan will host Round 2. Earlier reports seemed to indicate that Round 1 would begin in July 2018 but it was announced at the meeting that it will kick off in September 2018. Today Selengepress FC announced that they have signed American defender John Walrath for the 2018 season. Walrath was identified as a top prospect by Tim Guercio, Goyo FC player and MFF representative, during his Premier League combines held in the United States. Walrath was one of six players to who have traveled to Mongolia and are currently on trial with FC Ulaanbaatar, Goyo FC, Erchim FC, and Athletic 220 FC. Walrath impressed the club enough to be offered a contract after only a week in training. Confirmed: Austin Rogers Joins Ulaanbaatar City FC

As first reported by Mongolian Football Central earlier this week, American GK Austin Rogers has signed for Ulaanbaatar City FC for the 2018 season on a free transfer. The signing was officially announced by the club this morning. Rogers, formerly of Bayangol FC and FC Ulaanbaatar, will likely be Ulaanbaatar City FC's new #1 following Mauro Boerchio's recent departure. Mongolia Suffers Disappointing Loss to Mauritius, 2-0

Coming off of a satisfying 2-2 draw away at Malaysia only five days ago, Mongolia surely went into today's historic friendly with optimism.That positively was short-lived as Mongolia went from taking a penalty kick to being a goal down within a minute before the clock even struck the sixth minute. Earlier this month a lone source emerged stating that FC Ulaanbaatar goalkeeper and 2017 Goalkeeper of the Year Austin Rogers had signed for rivals Ulaanbaatar City FC. When MFC reached out to the player for comment he was noncommittal, stating simply that, "(It's) just rumors unless the club announces..." When pressed on whether the club has been in contact with him, he gave the evasive answer that the new foreign player rule will have a big effect on team's plans moving forward. G-Mobile Arena Construction Update

According to officials at Ulaanbaatar City FC in an exclusive statement to Mongolian Football Central, construction on the team's new G-Mobile arena is still underway. According to the team, the pitch will be ready to use for the team's practices by June 2018. The stadium structure and facilities will be fully finished by the end of the year and may be able to host matches in the latter stages of the 2018 MPL season. The team fully expects to be able to host all practices and matches at the new arena from 2019 forward. UB City FC will likely begin the season playing its home matches at the MFF Football Centre stadium which has hosted the team since it joined the league for the 2016 season. #

Mongolia Earns Historic Draw in Kuala Lumpur

History was made yesterday as Mongolia earned a 2-2 draw with hosts Malaysia at the National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur. The match marked the teams' first-ever non-defeat in a friendly match and first time playing Malaysia at the senior level. The hosts took the early lead off of a corner kick driven home by Akhyar Rashid in the 31st minute. The match marked Rashid’s senior debut. Mongolia did not trail for long with Enkhbileg Purevdorj chipping the oncoming 'keeper from just inside the box eleven minutes later after receiving a good through ball and some lax defending. FC Selengepress announced today that it has extended the contract of Erdenesuren Munkh-Erdene. The centre-back joined the club prior to the 2017 season. The 21-year-old previously played for FC Ulaanbaatar. Two Japanese Legionnaires join Deren FC

Today Deren FC announced two signings for the upcoming Mongolian Premier League season. Tatsuya Nishio is a 22-year-old Japanese striker who first arrived in Mongolia prior to the 2017, signing for Khoromkhon FC. He did not crack into the top division's top ten scorers list for the season. Also joining the club is 31-year-old (born 6 August 1986) defender Mizuho Sasaki. FC Ulaanbaatar has unveiled Italian UEFA "Pro"-licensed Marco Ragini as head coach for the 2018 Premier League Season. The announcement comes a little more than a month after long-time coach Jun Fukuda departed for Lao Toyoto FC. Ragini becomes the first UEFA "Pro" manager in FCU history. Mongolia's Only "A" Licensed Coach Signs for FC Selengepress

It was announced today that Mongolia's only coach to hold an AFC "A" license, Otgonbayar Ishdorj, has signed on to coach FC Selengepress of the Mongolian Premier League. Otgonbayar had, by far, the longest tenure of any coach of the Mongolian national team. The 49-year-old former defender was at the helm of the Blue Wolves for nearly 11 years from 2000 to December 2010. He also holds the record for the Mongolian national team coach with the most wins and draws recorded under his management. He was on the bench as Mongolia recorded its first-ever non-loss, a 2-2 draw with Bangladesh during 2002 FIFA World Cup qualification, and its first win, a 2-0 result against Guam two years later.
