Son of Mongolian Mainstay Begins Career

November 3, 2017

One must be a long-time fan of Mongolian football to recognize the name Lkhagvajav Dorjjav. Despite his time as a player and captain of the Blue Wolves, he is perhaps best known for his stint as national team manager when the team recorded its second (or first, depending on who you ask) international victory with a 2-0 victory over Guam during the 2003 East Asian Football Championship. Although the team eventually finished the tournament with three losses and a -14 goal differential, it was a historic moment in the sporting history of the country.

A new chapter of Mongolian footballing history began today as Dorjjav's son, L. Enkhmunkh, participated in his first competition. Enkhmunkh is participating with the Durant team in the under-9 category of the 2017 Deren Cup, an annual youth futsal tournament organized by Premier League club Deren FC. His team is currently first in its group.

With the continued growth of the the sport in Mongolia, including professionalism, infrastructure, improved coaching, and international partnerships, young talent such as this has never had a better opportunity to develop in to top-class players.
