Just days after the departure of head coach Michael Weiss, the Mongolian Football Federation has named Serbian UEFA "A" coach Vojislav Bralušić interim manager of the national team.

The announcement comes just eight days after Bralušić was presented as the new head coach of Mongolian Premier League champions Ulaanbaatar City FC.

He is surely the European A-level coach remaining in Mongolia most familiar with the football landscape, with eight years of national team and club coaching experience in the country on his CV.

He was appointed to the same position in 2014 for Mongolia's qualifying campaign for the 2015 EAFF Championship. During his 3-match tenure, the team went 1-0-2. Qualification started off strongly with a 4-0 victory over minnows the Northern Mariana Islands before two consecutive losses including a 0-2 defeat to Guam and 2-3 defeat to Macau. The team finished in third place out of four teams and failed to reach the second round.

He also lead the Mongolian under-16 team in 2015.

If a permanent replacement is not found before, Bralušić will be on the bench as Mongolia resumes 2022 World Cup Qualification in March away at Tajikistan and for a massive home match against Japan.

While his first stint as national team manager was long or successfully, the team and association are already light years ahead of where it was in 2014. However, it remains to be seen whether the experienced Bralušić can manage to balance MPL season preparation, AFC Cup matches, and national team obligations successfully.
