2022 MPL Season Kicks Off This Month

Less than one month since the close of the 2021 football season in Mongolia, it has been announced that the first two rounds of the 2022 Hisense Premier League season will begin later this month due to time constraints with scheduling.

The change comes as the Mongolian Football Federation rolls out a major overhaul of its schedule and the MPL switches to a round-robin style season broken into Fall and Spring halves with a break for the harsh Mongolian winter.

Fans will be allowed to attend matches in person up to 50% capacity this season with admission being free for at least the first two rounds of matches.

As expected Khovd FC and Tuv Buganuud FC join last year's MPL first through eighth place finishers in the top flight. Tuv Buganuud will open the football season against last year's champions Athletic 220 FC on Wednesday 3 November. In the second match of the day, Khovd take on runners-up Deren FC.

Day 2 of Round 1 will be Thursday 4 November and Matchday 2 will be played between Saturday, 6 November and Sunday, 7 November. Reigning #1 and #2 Athletic 220 FC and Deren FC face each other to open the second round.

The short offseason means that players will likely be tired from the recently-concluded season and clubs will not have much time to make signings and tweak rosters. Expect more drastic moves to occur during the winter break.
