The MFF Division 1 finally kicked off on 25 May 2026, beginning the "25/26" season eight months late. Following another dispute between clubs and MFF leadership, the MPL experienced a long delay prior to both the first and second rounds while the First Division never began its campaign.
The opening match saw Darkhan City defeat BCH Lions 2 to 1. The following day, Deren FC 2 triumphed over Khad FC by a score of 5 to 3. The second match that day saw historic club Erchim FC score four goals as as it shut out Just John Alliance FC. Erchim was set to take its usual spot in the Premier League this season, but withdraw before the opening match in protest of the Mongolian Football Federation. Ward FC and Bavarians FC are also in the league this season, with the former defeating the latter 4 to 0 in the opening match for both clubs.
B. Namsrai of WARD FC is the season's first leader of the golden boot race after tallying a hat-trick against Bavarians. Three other players are tied for second place with two goals apiece.
DMU FC is also competing in the league but had a bye week because of the league's unbalanced, 9-club table. Missing from the league is Brera Ilch FC who were relegated from the Premier League last season. The club made international headlines when it was purchased by the Italian family of clubs Brera Holidings in February 2024, but was relegated following the 2025-2026 season.
The league is usually played in a double round-robin format with clubs playing every other two times. It remains unclear if each club will play each other once for eight matches because of the long delay, or if the typical format can be played in the condensed window.
