A football match that didn't go as planned: On Sunday evening, FC Deren and FC Ulaanbaatar faced off under wintery conditions. Just 16 seconds into the game, a sudden power outage caused an unexpected interruption. While the players returned to their dressing rooms, around 200 spectators—150 of them vocal Deren fans—braved the cold and kept the atmosphere lively.

After a delay of over an hour and a half, the match was restarted at around 9 PM local time. Deren began strongly, dominating the early stages. As early as the 4th minute, Funami Yutaro (#11) made a statement with a precise shot following a perfect cross from Munkh-Orgil (#12). FC Ulaanbaatar’s goalkeeper Munkh-Erdene (#1) managed to push the ball aside just in time.

The first ten minutes clearly belonged to Deren, but in the 11th minute, FC Ulaanbaatar capitalized on their first opportunity and took a surprising lead via a corner. FCU defender Enzo Dietrich (#3) skillfully used his height advantage to head the ball into the net, 0-1.

Deren continued to press, but their chances went unconverted. The turning point came in the 15th minute: Yutaro broke through the FCU defense, only to be unfairly stopped by Dashnim (#28) as the last man. The referee initially showed a yellow card, but after consulting with the linesman, he issued a second yellow, leading to a red card for Dashnim, reducing FC Ulaanbaatar to ten men early in the match.

In the 20th minute, the technical issues reappeared, with power fluctuations ultimately causing the match to be abandoned.

It remains uncertain how the game will proceed. FC Deren might push for the match to be annulled, which would allow it to be replayed in full in 2025. That would mean the 0-1 scoreline, as well as Ulaanbaatar’s red card, would be erased—likely leaving all parties satisfied.
