17-year-old Mongolian midfielder Khabul Baatar has impressed on three continents and in at least four countries after shining at home before moving on to Brazil, England, and Spain. Fresh off his senior international debut, here is everything you need to know about Mongolia's most promising prospect.

Born in Ulaanbaatar, Baatar made his way through the youth ranks of SP Falcons. By age 16, he was playing for the club's senior squad in the Mongolian Premier League, debuting on 13 April 2025 in a 7-0 victory over Tuv Azarganuud. The SP Falcons coach showed his confidence in Baatar by then including him in the lineup for the club's 25/26 AFC Challenge League qualification match against Taichung Futuro, though the young player was ultimately left on the bench.

After obtaining a global talent visa for the United Kingdom, Baatar attended the the private Millfield School in Somerset, England for three seasons through 2025. While studying, he also played for the school's football team. While a student at the college, Baatar was called up to Mongolia's under-17 national team for 2025 AFC U-17 Asian Cup qualification and appeared in all three of the team's matches.

In 2025, Baatar transferred to the Brooke House College and joined its famous football academy which has produced at least 25 full internationals. With the team, he made appearances against the academies of major clubs such as Fulham and AFC Bournemouth, scoring in both matches. In September of that year, he represented Mongolia in AFC U-23 Asian Cup qualification in matches against Thailand, Lebanon, and Malaysia. The following month, Baatar was invited for a three-week trial in Brazil with Cruzeiro Esporte Clube which was arranged by his Brazilian head coach at SP Falcons, Arthur Ferreira.

While 2025 was major for the player, 2026 has already held even more. When Marco Ragini announced his call-ups for senior friendlies against Singapore and Hong Kong in summer 2026, Baatar's name was included in the list. He went on to make his senior international debut on 31 May 2026 against Singapore, coming on as a second-half substitute for Amara Dolgoon.

At the time of his call-up, it was also revealed that the young Mongolian had joined Hercules CF of Spain's third-tier Primera Federacion. While the nature and length of the deal is unclear, Baatar is certainly gaining experiences that few Mongolians have ever had. With Mongolian football experiencing a time of many lows, Baatar is a bright spot of hope that fans have not seen the likes of since Ganbold Ganbayar.
