According to a source close to the club, reigning back-to-back MPL champion SP Falcons will announce that it is ceasing operations of its senior male squad and will withdraw from the Premier League. SP Falcons has been a foundation of Mongolian football since the club's establishment in 2003.
With the exit, the Premier League loses one of its oldest and most consistent clubs, and recently one of its most successful. SP Falcons won back-to-back titles in 23/24 and 24/25 and had a strong qualification campaign for the 25/26 AFC Challenge League which saw the club qualify for the group stage. SP Falcons would go on to earn two wins in four matches on the international stage this year.
It is unclear who will replace SP Falcons when the Premier League eventually resumes following another rift between clubs and federation executives. Stoppage of league play has worsened the clubs' ability to generate operating funds, a task that was already difficult in the country. Losing any clubs will cause chaos in scheduling, standings, and relegation/promotion plans, among other issues.
The loss of SP Falcons follows the withdrawal of Erchim FC, another of Mongolia's most successful clubs, just prior to season kickoff. Erchim forfeited its Premier League place in protest of the MFF President and has shifted towards focusing on youth football. It is unclear if SP Falcons will also this path.
