Yesterday it was announced that Premier League club SP Falcons has entered into a memorandum of understanding with the government of Bulgan province. The agreement will see the club rebranded as Bulgan SP Falcons, effective immediately. The club's logo has not been changed as of yet, but Bulgan's crest will feature prominently on the kits.
As part of the agreement, the Ulaanbaatar-based club will assist with developing an interest in the sport in Bulgan province. SP Falcons will conduct training and coach education.
Bulgan province is one of the 21 aimags of Mongolia. Bulgan City, the capital, is located 441km (274 miles) from Ulaanbaatar. The cities are linked by road or a train can be taken from Erdenet, an hour drive by car. Bulgan province is ranked 16th in size and 19th in population.
SP Falcons was founded in 2003 as Selenge Press FC. Despite the name, the club is not based in Selenge province or the district of the same name in Bulgan. The name originates from Selenge Press LLC, a large printing company in Ulaanbaatar.
Selenge Press FC unveiled a new crest and changed its name to SP Falcons in March 2019 ahead of the 2019 MPL season.
Bulgan SP Falcons will take the field for the first time when the Premier League spring season begins the week of 11 March 2023.
